Medicinal Uses

The plant is an alterative, nutritive, carminative, anti-scorbutic, heart and brain tonic, aromatic and astringent agent that helps in the treatment of many ailments. Decoctions of the root relieves in palpitations of the heart, indigestion, and bowel inflammations and also to overcome vomiting. The root, leaves and bark of the plant are used in case of snakebite. Bel fruit is regarded as best laxatives and hence very useful in constipation, diarrhea and dysentery. The root of the plant is used to cure ear problems. A medicated oil extracted from the leaves of bel are very effective in the treatment of colds and respiratory affections. The infusion of bel leaf is best for curing peptic ulcer.
