Ayurvedic Treatment for Psoriasis

Psoriasis is a skin disease identified by the presence of dry and scaly patches on the skin. The skin becomes dry and rough. There is an appearance of red spots on the skin covered with fine silvery scales. The major affected areas are knees, elbows, back, buttocks, scalp, forehead, crotch, eyebrows, genitals, navel, armpits, and nails. Psoriasis can be a result of poor hygiene but not always. Fair colored people are likely to suffer more frequently than dark color people but it?s not a rule.

  • Causes of Psoriasis
  • Psoriasis can be caused by over reaction of immune system. This results in inflammation and cracking of skin.
  • Sometimes it can be genetic in nature.
  • Unhealthy and unhygienic living can also be a cause to psoriasis.
  • Any disturbance in the mechanism of growth of skin can lead to psoriasis.
  • Several environmental factors like overexposure to ultraviolet rays of sun, infection, emotional stress and sudden climatic can also lead to psoriasis.

Symptoms of Psoriasis

  • Presence of red patches with silvery scales on the skin is observed. Especially on the palms, scalp, face, elbows, knees and soles of the feet.
  • Swelling and pain in the joints.
  • Nails become thick and uneven.
  • Sometimes bleeding is seen through the cracked skin. 

Ayurvedic Treatment for Psoriasis

  • Applying the juice of Kakmachi (Solanum nigrum) to the infected region is quite beneficial in reducing the inflammation and itching.
  • Consumption of few cloves of Garlic (Allium sativum) in the morning in an empty stomach daily filters the toxins from the blood and helps against psoriasis.
  • A gentle massage of infected part by a mixture of calendula oil mixed with oregano oil and olive oil is quite effective.
  • Applying avocado oil on the affected part is very useful.
  • Consuming bitter gourd juice along with limejuice shows good results.
  • Applying leaf extracts of neem (Azadiracta indica) to the infected area is very useful as it is an excellent blood purifier.
  • The anti bacterial and anti-inflammatory properties of turmeric relieve the pain, swelling and inflammation during psoriasis.
  • A paste of flowers of jasmine can be applied to the infected parts to get beneficial results.

Psoriasis can occur to any person of all ages but can be treated naturally. Ayurveda has described psoriasis as a result of imbalance in vata and kapha of tridoshas. Thus, ayurveda has provided many natural cures to maintain the balance between vata and kapha. Thus ayurvedic treatment of psorasis is extremely beneficial and potentially capable of curing psorasis.
