Useful Herbs for Eye Care
The importance of eyes to human being needs not to be told. It gives a meaning to the life by providing us ability to see and feel things. Eyes are the most over worked part of the body, which sometimes leads to several eye problems such as Cataract Conjunctivitis Glaucoma Myopia, or eye Sty. Eyes are always exposed to the external environment and needs to be taken care of for avoiding these problems.
Ayurveda has a wide range of herbs that are very useful for the treatment of eyes with no side effects. Some of them are:
- Aniseed (Pimpinella anisum): Aniseed is very useful for curing cataract. A tablespoon of powder of its seeds in the morning and evening is very beneficial.
- Babul (Acacia arabica): Babul is helpful in the treatment of conjunctivitis. Before going to sleep in the night, paste of babul is applied to the eyes. It reduces the itchiness, wateriness and the redness of the sore
eyes.
- Carrot (Daucus carota): Carrot contains a precursor of vitamin A, beta-carotene that is very necessary for eyes. Vitamin A gives strength to the eyes and protects them from night blindness.
- Coriander (Coriandrum sativum): People suffering from conjunctivitis can use the decoction of coriander as eyewash. This reduces burning, redness and swelling of the
eyes.
- Indian Gooseberry (Emblica officinalis): The Indian gooseberry, known as amalaki, is an excellent herb for treating optical problems. It brings relief to both conjunctivitis and glaucoma patients. Amalaki juice along with honey shows very effective results.
- Indian Sorrel (Oxalis corniculata): The Indian Sorrel shows some excellent properties of eye treatment. Putting a few drops of juice of its leaves in the eyes keeps the eyes free from strain. They are also helpful in prevention for
cataract.
- Marigold (Calendula officinalis): Cold infusion of marigold is used for washing eyes that are stressed. This brings a cooling effect to the eyes. It is also effective in cases of conjunctivitis.
- Parsley (Petroselinum crispum) : The raw juice of parsley is effective treatment of several eye problems such as corneal ulcers, cataracts, weak eyes, conjunctivitis, opthalmia and sluggishness of the pupils.
Eyes are the most sensitive part of the body and need special care for treatment. Herbal ayurvedic treatments utilize useful herbs for eye care, which are the most effective against all eye problems with negligible side effects.
